Refashioning a light-weight fall jacket into a vest is a great idea. Cutting off the sleeves at the shoulder is easy enough however finishing off the raw edges to neatly lay flat might be challenge. I believe fold-over braid may be one solution to finishing off the shoulder edges neatly.

What a practical idea! This works so well for,a jacket that has seen better days or no longer fits, or is out of style. You could even go to resale shops or estate sales and find jackets at a great discount and make vests from these and give as gifts! I could also see making these for little girls, or even vests for,guys from a guy's jacket. Creative and clever, thanks,for,sharing this idea!
