Author does not allow blog comments unless you're a member of the "team" (according to her own site), but this isn't really a beginner pattern. Hopefully message cab be conveyed to author. Here's what I attempted to post: How does a true beginner sew buttons on. It just tells us to "sew them on," but not how (unless I overlooked it). Perhaps that can be added and/or updated. Assumes or assumed knowledge of button holes and how to actually sew a button on. :-)

There's no button holes. You just simply hand sew buttons in the faux fly part. It's for decoration purposes. like those store bought pants with button details on front. Hope this helps. Read the tutorial slowly and twice if you need to but it really is a beginner project. I'm a complete novice and just learning on my own with my very first sewing machine with no prior knowledge of garment making and this is super easy and doable.

if you are true beginner and have never sewn a button on, go to youtube and you will find a video there.
