Hardware store drop cloths make excellent totes. The fabric is sturdy enough to last a long time. I imagine a heavy duty sewing machine needed and strong thread might be best to use with this type of fabric. This drop cloth purse would look nice with a stamped design added for extra pizzazz.

I can't wait to make this! I'm going to stamp a simple motif on the outside, also, with the fabric stamps and ink I have used on burlap before. It should look even better on this flatter, smoother fabric and the detail will show up better than on burlap. I know my friends and family are going to ask me to make them one!
