Simple Ruffle Tutorial
When it comes to adding embellishments to your projects, don't overcomplicate things.
This Simple Ruffle Tutorial is a great opportunity to add a technique to your sewing skill set that can be applied to various projects.
Ruffled fabric makes any piece look polished and professional, and with this easy video tutorial from BERNINA you'll know how to add that element without feeling overwhelmed.
Settle down to your machine and follow along with this easy video for added aesthetics. Just watch the video below and you'll see for yourself.
1. The first thing to do when making a ruffle is to lengthen your stitch length. You will want to lengthen your stitch to the longest length to make a nice basting stitch.
2. Place your fabric under the presser foot and guide it by the 3/8th inch marking on your throat plate. At the beginning you want to secure your stitch and continue to stitch the length of your ruffle.
3. Place a second row of stitching 5/8th of an inch from the edge of the fabric, and again secure your stitch when you start and then stitch your second row. After you have your two rows of stitching completed, you will want to pull the top threads that you have just sewn. As you pull them it will start to gather your fabric.
4. Continue to pull on the thread until you get the desired fullness. You can make it a very full ruffle or you can spread them out for even a slight ruffle.

Thank you for this great instructional video and information. I always made ruffles by leaving long tails of both threads from the two rows of stitching, and gathering them back and forth two, ways, but sometimes you run the risk of pulling the stitching all they way out! By securing ine end, you won't have that happen. Love these instructional videos. They are so helpful!
