So I've purchased one of those crochet your own rug patterns before and I gave up on it! This seems infinitely easier to me but I do wonder if the glue is enough to keep the braids in place. I love the idea though. I think a few pieces of rubber shelf liner glued to the back of the canvas would keep it from sliding on the floor. I have plenty of scraps so this might be a great summer project!

This braided rug seems easy enough to do just as long as there are plenty of scrap fabrics to use in the braiding. I imagine old t-shirts cut into long strips would be acceptable in place of flat fabric pieces. Not sure it is necessary to glue to a backing as the tutorial suggests however there are many options to back the rug to keep it from being slippery when stepped on.

Have you made a rug like this one or any rug yet? I would love to make my own so I can choose my own colors. I am not sure that I like the idea to glue the braids to the backing. Will it hold? Do you know how else to sew the braids down or even just together? It does seem so easy to do and the tutorial explains it well the backing just scares me.
