This is a nice project and so helpful for the first time quilter to really home their craft! In addition to place, ate, I could see expanding this to several linked and bound together to make a nice table runner, either for the dining table or side table buffet. Add some thicker padding and it could do,double duty as a trivet, protecting your table for hot serving dishes! Great idea and pattern!

Oh my gosh what a great way to use up scrap pieces of fabric for a super cute project. I have tried to quilt before and did not have a lot of luck but I am going to give this a try in the future. Looks great on a table and sure would be a great gift in any design. I love that you can machine or hand quilt. This is a great tutorial. Anyone make any yet?

This pattern is so cute. Great beginner project for someone that dreams of quilting in the future. Quilting is all about learning to cut out your blocks correctly and sewing a 1/4" seam. It's all about practice. WIth this pattern, you can make something useful for your table or even make them as gifts. Small enough you can make several in a day. It's a win win

What a fun pattern! I have a small kitchen table, and I think these shorter place mats would fit perfectly without making it look too crowded
