Instructions make the zipper cases too short since they subtract 3/4 inch from the length, then lose 2 additional seam allowances for the sides. I followed these instructions to modify the 13 step canvas tote, and had to rip the zipper out it fit so badly. After remaking the zipper case the full width, adding extra to the cut fabric to account for the seam allowances, and attaching higher in the bag, it works great. If there is much width to your bag, longer zipper tails are also needed.
