Upcycled Denim Lavender Sachets

"These lavender sachets are great for freshening up your drawers and they make wonderful gifts, too. If you can’t get lavender at your local Farmers Market, you can substitute handmade or store-bought potpourri. (Similarly, if for some strange reason, you don’t have a stack of old jeans in your closet, you can substitute cotton fabric for the denim.)

Materials: A pair of jeans destined for the scrap pile. You’ll need just part of one leg to make each sachet. Alternatively, you can use a fat eighth of cotton fabric or two 6″ (15 cm) cotton fabric squares. Rotary cutter, cutting mat, and ruler, or fabric shears, ruler, and a fabric marking pencil (and lots more patience). For embellishment, I used my Cricut with Cricut Design Space, a 4″ (10 cm) x 6″ piece of Cricut Glitter Iron-on in Silver, and a Cricut Tools Weeder.

If you don’t have an electronic cutting machine, you could use scissors and a stencil to cut the glitter iron-on. Dried lavender or potpourri. One 8 ounce bag would make three to five sachets, depending on how much you stuff each one. A sewing machine or sturdy, hand sewing needle (to work through the denim) with cotton thread. A small amount of transparent polyester thread with a sturdy, hand sewing needle (for closing up the last part of the sachet). Clover Mini Iron, or standard sized iron. Ironing board or other iron-safe surface. Spoon."
