Selvage Planter Cozy

Selvage Planter Cozy

"Have you gotten caught up in the indoor gardening craze? If you have, you've likely seen DIY self-watering planters made out of soda bottles and such, where the top half is cut off and inserted into the bottom half, leaving an opening for excess water to drain and subsequently be drawn up again. Well, this tutorial is not about how to make this planter, but rather about how to camouflage the fact that it's not the most attractive looking thing. Yes, this is a wrap-around cozy — made out of selvage "fabric" – for a DIY plastic planter. (Or any other planter that you may want to sew a jacket for!) I show you how to make your own one of a kind fabric out of selvages, but the project is quite open to customization (you can make it with regular fabric); it can be quilted or not, and there are at least two ways to finish it. I provide one option using pieces of elastic so that the cozy can be slipped onto the planter. If you've been saving selvages to make your first "selvage project", maybe this is the one to try!"
