Outdoor Medallion Pillow
"Creating pillows to decorate your outdoor space is simple and fun. Make a simple pillow using outdoor fabric for a swing, bench, or chair. Select outdoor fabrics that are sun and weather-resistant and sew with Coats & Clark Outdoor thread. Coats Outdoor thread is UV resistant and will not fade or breakdown even when exposed to direct sunlight. Coats Outdoor thread is very strong and heavier than an all-purpose thread. Be sure to use a larger needle in your machine and a longer stitch length. We created this pillow by selecting coordinating outdoor fabrics and making the medallion in the fabric design the focal point. "

Materials List
- Coats & Clark Outdoor Thread
- 1/2 yd (46 cm) outdoor fabric in a solid color
- ¼ yd (23cm) outdoor fabric in 2 coordinating prints
- Rectangular pillow form in size of your choice
Instructions
-
Measure the pillow form across the center front from edge to edge across the length and width.
-
Pillow Front: For the front, divide the width of the rectangle by four. The width of the center panels will be 2x this number plus 1”. The two sides will be 1x this number plus 1 ”. For example: a pillow 20” wide, the center panel will be 11” wide and the sides will be 6” wide. The length will be the pillow form measurement plus 1″.
-
From one of the coordinating prints, cut two side panels. From the other print fabric cut one center panel. If the fabric has a design, make sure it is centered.
-
Add a total of 1“(2.54cm) to the length and width measurements of the pillow form. Cut one pillow back from solid fabric.
-
Pin a side panel to both short ends of the center panel. Sew side panels to center using a ½” seam. Press seam to one side.
-
Pin the front and back pillow pieces right sides together. Stitch around the pillow, 1/2”(1.27cm) from raw edge, leaving an opening to insert the pillow form.
