Different Ways to Tie a Scarf Around Your Neck
Simple Wrap Scarf Tying Technique

- Bring the other end of the scarf loosely around the front of your neck and toss it over your shoulder. Leave this side draped down your back, on the side of your body opposite to Step 1.
Basic Scarf Wrap Scarf Tying Technique
- Drape your scarf down one side of your body.
- With the other end of the scarf, wrap the scarf loosely around your neck one full time.
- Bring this side of your scarf back in the front and even out the two ends.
Thick Cowl Wrap Scarf Tying Technique
- Drape a short length of your scarf over your shoulder towards your back.
- With the long end of your scarf, wrap your scarf around your neck 2-3 times.
- Tuck the other end of the scarf into one of the loops you created.
Tip: You can insert a shawl pin when you do this cowl look to add extra flair.
Knotted Front Scarf Tying Technique
- Drape your scarf down one side of your body.
- With the other end of the scarf, wrap the scarf around your neck one full time. Tighten this loop as close to your neck as you feel comfortable with.
- Loosely tie a knot in the middle of one of the scarf’s lengths with just that end of the scarf.
- Tuck the other end of your scarf in the center of this knot and pull it through.
- Adjust both ends of your scarf so that they hang about evenly.
Twist-and-Loop Scarf Tying Technique
- Center the scarf on the back of your neck and bring both ends to your front. Pull one side a little longer than the other.
- Wrap the longer side of your scarf three times around the length of the other side.
- Bring the same long side through the front of the loop around your neck, from below to above. This loop should be between the front of your body and the wraps you created in Step 2.
- Tuck the end of the same long side underneath the last wrap you created in Step 2. It should lie above the shorter end of your scarf.
- Fan out this end of the scarf and adjust it so that it lays on top of the other end of the scarf.
Over-Shoulder Knot Scarf Tying Technique
- Drape your scarf down one side of your body.
- With the other end of the scarf, wrap the scarf tightly around your neck one full time.
- Bring this side of your scarf back in the front and even out the two ends.
- Tie a knot with both ends of the scarf and tighten it so that it is as close to your neck as you feel comfortable with.
- Rotate the scarf so that the knot rests directly above one shoulder. Lay one of the ends to the back of your shoulder and the other end to the front. The end result should look like a long ascot.
Figure 4 Knot Scarf Tying Technique
- Center the scarf on the back of your neck and bring both ends to your front.
- Pull one end so that it is slightly longer than the other.
- Loop the longer end around the shorter end, moving from behind the shorter end to the front of it. While you do this, hold the halfway point of the longer end in place. The top half should not move from its original hanging position.
- With the other hand, hold the loop you just created around the shorter end in place, parallel to the floor. In this step, your two ends should look something like the number 4. There should also be a new loop around the shorter end of your scarf.
- Loop the long end of your scarf through the large loop around your neck, from under to over. In other words, the long end of the scarf should loop around its upper half.
- Bring the long end of your scarf through the small loop you created around the short end in Step 3. The end should move from top to bottom.
- Pull the ends so that they are roughly equal in length, and push the knot you created to the desired height.
Macrame Tie Scarf Technique
- Center the scarf on the back of your neck and bring both ends to your front.
- Tie a knot with the two ends of your scarf and tighten up your scarf as close to your neck as you would like it.
- If your scarf is long enough, tie another knot in the opposite direction of your first.
Chic Chain Scarf Tying Technique
- Center the scarf on the back of your neck and bring both ends to your front.
- With both ends of your scarf, tie a loose knot as close to the nape of your neck as you feel comfortable with.
- Continue tying loose knots down the length of your scarf. When placed in succession, these knots should look like a chain. Tie as many or as few knots as you desire.
DIY Infinity Scarf Tying Technique
- Center the scarf on the back of your neck and bring both ends to your front.
- Tie a relatively tight knot with the very ends of your scarf, thereby creating a large circle.
- Twist the front of the circle 180 degrees so that the scarf crisscrosses in front of your neck. Put your head through the new circle you’ve created.
- Repeat Step 3 as many times as you desire.
Hidden Knot Scarf Tying Technique
- Drape your scarf down one side of your body.
- With the other end of the scarf, wrap the scarf loosely around your neck one full time.
- Bring this side of your scarf back in the front and even out the two ends.
- Tie a knot with both ends and tighten it as close to your neck as you feel comfortable with.
- Hide the knot underneath the original loop you created.
Breezy Wrap Scarf Tying Technique
- Drape your scarf down one side of your body so that one end of your scarf reaches your hips.
- Very loosely, bring the other end of your scarf around your neck to the opposite side of your body, and let it hang in the back. There should be a big enough loop in the front that both ends of the scarf reach about the same height on your body.
Infinity Tuck Scarf Tying Technique
- Fold your scarf in half so that your two ends are touching.
- Center the folded scarf on the back of your neck and bring both ends to your front. One end (End A) should be the two real ends of the scarf. The other end (End B) should be the folded half of your scarf.
- Bring End A through the loop of End B and pull until secure and comfortable.
Lattice Tuck Scarf Tying Technique

- Center the folded scarf on the back of your neck and bring both ends to your front. One end (End A) should be the two real ends of the scarf. The other end (End B) should be the folded half of your scarf.
- Tuck only one of the real ends of the scarf (one half of End A) through the loop of End B. Hold this half of End A high, close to your neck so that there is space in End B's loop below.
- Twist the loop of End B to create another, smaller loop. The real end of the scarf that you tucked in Step 3 should not be included in this new loop. Instead, it should lay above the new loop you create.
- Tuck the other end of the scarf (the other half of End A) through the second, smaller loop you created in Step 4. This should create a woven-like fold over your front.
Twisted Lattice Tuck Scarf Tying Technique
- Fold your scarf in half so that your two ends are touching.
- Center the folded scarf on the back of your neck and bring both ends to your front. One end (End A) should be the two real ends of the scarf. The other end (End B) should be the folded half of your scarf.
- Tuck only one of the real ends of the scarf (one half of End A) through the loop of End B.
- Take the other end of the scarf (the other half of End A) behind the first half of End A, over the top half of End B, and under the bottom of End B. The end result should look something like a pretzel.
