Honeycomb Purse
"This is a unique honeycomb-shaped purse, celebrating honey bees. My father was a beekeeper in his spare time. I am highly allergic to bee stings, but I was fascinated by his hobby, which I obviously could not pursue myself. However, in honor of his memory, and because I thought it would be a fun project, I created this purse to use as a Cos-Play piece. It turned out to be as special as I had hoped, so I thought I would share it with others who might enjoy such a project themselves. "

Materials List
- Cotton quilting fabric
- thin fusible or sew-in foam
- Matching thread
- Zipper (anywhere from 6" to 12").
Instructions
-
Cut out a hexagon. The one I chose has 6-inch sides. The zipper can be anywhere from 6-12 inches. The foam is 1/2 inch smaller all around than the outer fabric. The lining is the same size as the outer fabric. Cut 2-1/2 inch strips of accent fabric the length of the zipper (including tabs). Cut two 2-inch strips of fabric the remainder of the length of the circumference of the hexagon. Also with accent fabric, cut 2-1/2 inch wide strip the length of the desired strap plus around 2 inches. If you want an adjustable strip, make the first piece longer, and also add another piece 2-1/2 inches wide by 4 inches to make the holder for the D-ring.
-
Start by attaching the foam to the wrong sides of the hexagonal lining, either by stitching around the edge (if not fusible), or by fusing, making sure to leave the 1/2 inch seam allowance all around the outside edge.
-
Folding the strips of accent fabric that is the length of the zipper in half, attach them to the right side of the zipper, using a zipper foot. Once attached, trim zipper strip to the size of the other accent pieces.
-
Attach the accent pieces all together (zipper and remainder). This will be both the outer layer and the lining of the accent area of the bag.
-
Mark the center of the top of the bag. Mark the center of the zipper on both sides along the outer edges.
-
Matching up the center of one hexagon piece and the zipper piece (outsides facing), and pinning or clipping all the way around, stitch, being careful to make the corners crisp.
